I have an AMD Radeon and I've experienced numerous crashes in different Unreal Engine 3 games:Īll of these games were just crashing randomly. The other problem is directly tied to your graphics card driver program - Catalyst Control Center. Thanks to a user by the name of Notional for this solution, and user Hans Power for the TextureStreamingDistanceLimit fix. If you had previously used -dx9 command line you need to remove it for your game to start using DirectX10 again:.It is recommended that you choose a value that is not higher then memory of your video card.Īlso you need to change TextureStreamingDistanceLimit from whatever it currently is to 10000 Here you have to search for "TextureStreamingMemoryLimit" value and change it from 256 to 2048. ***WARNING*** Appdata folder is a hidden system folder so you need to go to your system settings and change it so it shows all hidden and system files. C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2Steam\.To try this method just go to this folder: This should prevent game from crashing because of lack of VRAM. Mine was crashing after a few minutes of play.Instead of turning DirectX 10 completely off you can choose to simply increase video card memory limit for textures that game uses. If you have a good enough graphics card, you can edit the. Don't do this if you aren't confident because you can really mess up your game/ computer. My issue was when the game got busy the game would crash. I increased how much VRAM my game could access. Once the game could properly load all textures, I've gone 2 hours without a crash. It may or may not help you.ġ- Press WIndows E. In the search bar, search %appdata%Ģ- find your Bioshock 2 folder and go into it.Ĥ- CTRL F to search for TextureStreamingMemoryLimitĥ- change that from 516 to 2048 (keep all the 0s in there. idk if it matters, but don't touch what you don't need to)Ħ- right below is TextureStreamingDistanceLimit. I have GTX680 and 8 GB of RAM i7 processor, will this work for me or I shouldn't try (harmful)? I found one on here that worked, but I cannot find the thread anymore. I have a GTX 970 and a i5 8600k with 16GB of RAM. It all falls on your graphics card to be able to handle it. Your card just needs enough RAM to handle the game when it's loading all those textures. The devs don't allow the game by default to use enough RAM to run properly. most likely to save people with potato computers any trouble. 2048MB is the limit of your card.(mine is 4GB.so go figure this fix worked easily for me.) #Bioshock 2 remastered crash to desktop codeĭon't switch that line of code from 516 to 2048. It may be enough to stop crashes, but I haven't tested how much RAM the game can use at max. be careful doing if you are going to do it. I've been working with computers since i was 7 so I know what to do if I make a mistake. If you're going to go for it, just make sure you make a backup for your computer and set up a system restore point.Īnd of course always take everything a stranger on the internet says with a grain of salt. I want you to be able to enjoy the game, but I also won't pay for your rig if it catches fire :P so take this info how you will.Īnd of course always take everything a stranger on the internet says with a grain of salt. Yeah you have twice the amount I do for graphics. As usual, make sure you do a restore point before you hit go, but your machine should be able to handle the fix easily. Let me know if it works! There is no need for a restorepoint. The only thing you probably need to save is the file you want to change, just make a copy of it on your desktop or where ever you like. If something with the change of the file goes wrong only the game stop working, nothing more. If this happens, just delete your changed file and move your copy back into this folder. There is absolutely no way to damage your system trough a config file of a game ) the worst possible situation could be to download the game again if you didn't save the file before changing ) but mostly it's already enough to delete the corupted file and start the game repairsequence trough the steamlibrary if something went wrong.Mvcr- This kind of error occurs when the Microsoft Visual C Redistributable software component is not integrity. #Bioshock 2 remastered crash to desktop software The problem is solved by updating this component.
